Jesus, Who is Everything, Became Nothing

We have a stunningly cosmic picture of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures. Colossians 1:15-20 makes clear that he is Lord of Creation; he's the goal of all of life, the Head of the Chuch, and the Lord of the New Creation. In short form, Jesus is everything.

He's also the one mediator between God and man. He alone reconciles sinful man to a holy God. He made peace by the blood of his cross. This is incredible act of condescension by our Savior! Jesus, who is everything, became nothing. This means that he used all of that power and all of that Lordship and all of that glory to make himself nothing (Philippians 2:6-7)! And he did this to repair the breech that our sins had made between us and God.

For all who are in Christ, we have peace with God. As we live out our lives today, let's be amazed by this. Let's glory in this peace that came to us at such a high price. Jesus, who is everything, became nothing so that we could be reconciled to God. Jesus, who is so exalted and supreme, laid his glory aside to deal with a problem that was not his own. It was our sin and our penalty and our alienation. But he took it upon himself and is exalted as the one mediator between God and man. Jesus is everything!
