Music and Worship: Sunday, January 31st, 2016

Good Afternoon!

Here is a brief recap of some of the songs that we used to worship God through this past Sunday, and some notes from one of our worship leaders, John McCall, on preparing our hearts to enter into worship. Also included below are some of the scriptures that inform the songs sung on Sunday.

We hope you are encouraged and uplifted as you read and watch below!

How Do We Prepare Our Hearts For Worship?

Sermon Title: A Servant of Christ

Scripture From Sermon: Galatians 1: 10-24

Main Prayer Focus

Galatians 1: 24 – "And they Glorified God because of me." Jesus, let us be those whom you choose to be glorified by. Lord, we seek to ultimately praise you and in doing so bring glory to your name. Help us to see that how we serve you builds up the church to be a worthy Bride of Christ. That the emphasis is on You and what You’ve done - not who we are when we try to stand apart from You or from the Body. Help us have vision for unity among us, to encourage and have humility, to serve when needed – not just when wanted. Give us an awareness of said needs and empower us to find ownership in our actions that ultimately giveYou Glory.

Things To Consider: We Are All Worshippers

Sometimes it is better to remember that it is Christ we seek to please and not man. As worship leaders, is good to desire to lead God’s people in praising him, but not at the expense of our own individual worship. God will be glorified for it as we serve Him, and as a result it will serve His people. Beyond this, you do not need the title of worship leader to lead and encourage those around you to truly worship the Lord.

How do the Songs Support the Message?

The songs we sang on Sunday morning spoke of how we as the body of Christ sing in unity of the only thing that matters – Christ is Lord! To Behold the lamb and nothing else. To sing in unison of who God is and what He’s done. The message spoke, again, of reliance on God for keeping focus on what matters and not being distracted by what we don’t like or disagree about. That we speak of our adoration for the King, to Praise the Almighty in agreement. To bow before Him and be undone, as we praise the True and Only King for his faithfulness. Bless the Lord oh my soul!

The Scripture/Story behind the songs:

Revelation Song

And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him. Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking. (Ezekiel 1:26-28)

Praise To The Lord, The Almighty

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:1-6)

I Bow Down

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. (Psalm 95:1-7)

10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord"

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy...(Psalm 103:1-4)

All To Us

...therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ (Isaiah 28:16)
