The Empty Soul

Below is a summary from Dave Harvey’s message on Psalm 63. It’s worth listening too again!

The Empty Soul - Psalm 63:1-8

God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me. – Psalm 63:1-8

When was the last time you felt hollow, vacant, and utterly empty, like a waterless well?

This song embodies have David WILL respond.

Empty is as empty does. Desire is sometimes reclaimed by action, not feelings.

What we do is more vital than what we feel.

1.  What should we do when we feel empty?

      A.  Go up! God is the answer to empty. Lost desires can only be found in God. Absalom is that thing in
            your life that diverted you from the path that you thought you would be on. The values we live by
            don't always deliver what we want. Sometimes God empties us to reorient us toward him.

      B.  Go back! David's soul may feel empty but his mind is full. David decides to respond to empty with
            the way he lived when life was full. This is the language of volition.

“Preach faith until you have it, and then preach faith because you have it.” - John Wesley

      C.  Go loud! Worship is not merely to express present feeling but to respond to past truth and future
            promises.

We know verse 3 because of Jesus.

I am going to praise you until I am filled, and then I will praise you because I am filled!

What would it mean to hook up the jumper cables of faith and propel faith forward?
