Imagine what may happen if as a church we each committed to praying for one person's salvation every day for an entire month. Could we do someone a greater service for the sake of their eternal destiny? Paul wrote in Romans 10:1, "Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved." As Christians we enjoy a relationship with our creator because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He took the penalty of our sin that was against us and in doing so reconciled us to God. What an amazing privilege! And in turn, there are other people in our lives still live like we once lived. They are lost. They are without Christ, without the promises, without hope, and without God in this world (Ephesians 2:12). What might the Lord do as we pray for these?

By Name is a 30-day prayer initiative where we all commit as a church to praying daily for one person to come to saving faith in Christ—praying for someone specifically, locally and in our immediate life.

  • Specifically – At times we can be overwhelmed by the sheer number of the lost around us. Each of us praying specifically for one person each day will focus us.

  • Locally – We all know people who are lost who live far away. We want to see them saved too. But during this initiative we want to pray for those who live in our vicinity.

Immediate Life – Who are the people that we actually interact with—the co-workers, the neighbors, the family members, the person we see repeatedly at the gym or store? We want to pray for people that we are actually going to see and interact with this month.

So what do we do? The By Name Prayer Initiative starts Sunday, September 8th. Between now and then think about who you might pray for. Write it down on one of the By Name Prayer Cards and keep it with you. Share it with others and ask others who they will be praying for. And then really pray for this person. Pray boldly and ask the Spirit of God to do a mighty work. When we come together on Sundays or for home group, we'll encourage one another to keep praying.
