ADVANCE in Generosity

Preacher: Chris Jessee Series: ADVANCE Topic: Sunday Sermons

In this message, Pastor Chris Jessee teaches that true generosity begins not with obligation, but with hearts moved by God’s presence. Drawing from Exodus 35 and 2 Corinthians 9, the message reveals that generosity is not a fundraising effort—it’s a grace-fueled response to the God who first gave everything for us.

Israel’s giving for the tabernacle was stirred by the Spirit, not demanded by law. Likewise, every act of giving today—time, resources, or service—is meant to reflect God’s character and trust His provision. As Randy Alcorn writes, “You can’t take it with you, but you can send it on ahead.” Jesus calls us to store up treasures in heaven by investing in what will last forever: people, gospel work, and God’s glory.

Pastor Chris also connected Metro Life Church’s ADVANCE Vision Initiatives with the biblical call to Cheerful, Meaningful, and Faith-Activating Generosity (2 Corinthians 8–9). Through these acts of faith, God strengthens discipleship, develops leaders, and expands gospel reach locally in Casselberry, regionally throughout Central Florida, and globally to the nations.

Generosity, then, is not a program—it’s a posture of grace. When we see Christ’s generosity at the cross, our own hearts are stirred to mirror His self-giving love.

Key Takeaways

  • Generosity begins with God’s grace. The gospel gives before it asks. Our giving flows from joy, not guilt.
  • Generosity expresses faith in God’s provision. Every act of giving trains the heart to trust that God’s supply is sufficient.
  • Generosity invests in eternity. What we give is not lost—it’s transferred from earth’s account to heaven’s.
  • Generosity reflects the Spirit’s presence. The same Spirit who filled Bezalel to build the tabernacle fills believers today to build God’s kingdom.
  • Generosity advances God’s mission. Through open hands and cheerful hearts, Metro Life Church is seeing God strengthen, develop, and expand His work among us.

How can generosity become a source of joy instead of obligation?

By seeing giving as worship, not transaction. True generosity happens when the Spirit stirs our hearts to respond to God’s grace with open hands and eternal hope.
