Joshua 2 - He Chooses The Unexpected

Preacher: Shane Kohout Series: Joshua: People of God's Purpose Topic: Sunday Sermons Scripture: Joshua 2:1–24

Can God really use someone with a broken past to accomplish His purposes?

In Joshua 2, God fulfills His promise by using a surprising individual in an unexpected location. As Israel prepares to enter the land, Joshua sends two spies into Jericho. Instead of finding strength in strategy or power, they encounter Rahab, a woman with a painful past and little standing in her city. Yet she responds to what she has heard about the Lord with faith, courage, and trust.

This message shows how God works through people the world often overlooks. Rahab believes that the Lord is the true God of heaven and earth, and she places herself and her family in His care. Her faith demonstrates that God's intentions transcend reputation, background, or past setbacks. He delights in showing mercy and writing new stories of redemption.

Rahab's story serves as a reminder that God is the historical hero. He prepares hearts before we ever see His work unfolding. He saves by grace, invites unlikely people into His plan, and weaves their lives into something far bigger than they imagined. The same God who redeemed Rahab continues to call people to His promises today through faith in Him.
