James 4:1-12 - A Faith That Fights Fair

Preacher: Chris Jessee Series: James - A Faith that works Scripture: James 4:1–12

Why do the same conflicts keep showing up in different relationships?

James 4:1-12 turns our attention to the desires beneath our arguments. In “A Faith That Fights Fair,” Pastor Chris Jessee explains how good desires for comfort, respect, security, or control can harden into demands. When those demands rule us, we blame people, rehearse our case, speak with contempt, and assume the place of judge.

James also exposes the loyalties beneath our responses when winning or approval matters more than love for God and neighbor. He calls us to humble ourselves before God, draw near to Him, repent honestly, and speak about others with love.

The message centers on four hopeful words: “He gives more grace.”

Jesus humbled Himself, carried the judgment sinners deserved, and rose again. Because of Christ, we can admit our sin without hiding in shame. His grace frees us to apologize without excuses, release our need to control the outcome, and pursue peace with humility.

Key takeaways:

  • Ask what desire is ruling your heart when conflict begins.
  • Bring your cravings, fears, and motives to God in prayer.
  • Refuse speech that makes another person smaller.
  • Trust Christ’s grace as you confess sin and pursue peace.
